So excited to have this project featured on Oh So Beautiful Paper! It is a blog I have followed for a very, very long time and I could not be more excited to have this opportunity. And of course thank you in large part to the wonderful Katie and Matt Carter who let me work with them on these gorgeous invites! I had the absolute best time putting all the pieces together and getting to try edge painting for the first time…something I will certainly be doing more of. They also had a pretty awesome wedding, so you should check out the photos here!

Thank you to all those who helped with this project:

deco board

Minted has just launched it’s new collection of Save The Date designs for 2013! I am excited to have 3 new designs included in the collection. The above inspiration board was created featuring one of those designs, Deco Date. The art deco era has always been a source of inspiration to me and a style that I love incorporating into my own work. Strong shapes, bold uses of color, and plenty of glitz and glamour is what that time period was all about! The above design is intended to be a save the date, but this is the type of wedding I imagine it being paired with. You can see all of the new designs here!

Over the past year I have been working with Speck Products to design custom cell phone case designs for seasonal holidays. The above cases were two designs I setup for potential Halloween cases that were sent to me as prototypes. I love the Candyshell cases from Speck! They are gorgeous in person and I was so happy they sent me a couple to see first hand. The printing is vivid and sharp and I love the pop of color on the inside too! The potion case I think has been shelved at the moment, but the Skull case can be purchased here!

Last week, a designer friend and native New Yorker came up with the idea to start an Etsy shop to benefit those affected by Hurricane Sandy. As one of the most devastating storms in our nation’s history, relief funds will be very important in the coming weeks and months to ensure that all those affected can return to a normal life.

Jackie’s idea was to create a shop of one color prints, cards, tags and thank yous that could all be hand stamped or embossed. She then reached out to some of her fellow designers to see if anyone was interested in participating and contributing designs for the shop. I have to say, I have been very moved by the outpouring of love from the design community. Everyone was so excited to help and contribute as much of their time as they could. I feel very lucky to have a design included in the collection!

To view the full shop please click here! Take a minute to browse the collection and buy a card or two to help with this worthy cause!

Well it’s that time of year again…the long summer wait as the Minted team makes their selections for the 2012 Holiday collection. The challenge closed mid June, but we will not receive any results until late September. It’s only a few months, but it is a very, very grueling wait. This year’s over 2600 submissions were seriously stunning and made for some very exciting competition. I enjoy being pushed and motivated, and this group of designers definitely does that! I really tried to put my best foot forward with my submissions and now all that’s left to do is cross my fingers and hope for the best. Cannot wait to see the final picks…whether or not I am included I know it will be a gorgeous collection.

Here’s a peak at some of my cards that made it to the final round of voting:

I had not one, but 2 brothers graduate this past month. The first was my middle brother Logan, from the University of Florida! The second was my youngest brother Ryan, the third and final Smith sibling to graduate from Brookwood High School. I convinced my mother and Ryan to let me design his graduation announcements back in March and had the absolute best time putting them together. My family is always the ideal client because they trust my visions 100%, removing a bit of the stress from the design process. But at the same time, I wanted these announcements to be perfect for my little brother, so I did stress over the details just a little.

I adore infographics, especially ones that have a little more personality, and I knew right from the start I wanted to incorporate some.  Lucky for me, my brother is multi-talented, and an over-achiever so I had a variety of tid bits to choose from! Ryan will be attending the University of Georgia in the fall so we decided to go with a red and black color scheme.

Congrats Ryan! Along with Ryan’s announcements I also got to create a design for a family friend. Becca is planning to be a fashion design major next year and definitely wanted an announcement that would stand out and reflect her creative side. I sent over a few different concepts, but this one was her favorite.

Also, I have a few grad announcements currently for sale over on Minted!

Congratulations Class of 2012!

Today I am excited to feature a recent logo & branding design project I worked on for the wonderful Michelle White! Michelle is a talented Atlanta based wedding photographer who I met last Fall. I loved her approach and her style – very sophisticated and classy with a touch of glam. She was looking to come up with something totally new for her business, that she could also incorporate into her site and blog. Here is a little bit of the inspiration we pulled from:

Color was very important. Michelle absolutely loves the color yellow and wanted to make sure the logo was warm and sunny. Fashion and elegance were also key points of inspiration. I wanted the logo to feel timeless and sophisticated, two qualities I feel reflect Michelle’s own personal style.

Along with the logo design, I also worked on business cards, a CD template, and as a letterhead that could be printed or used digitally. We went with a lace-like damask pattern to help compliment the logo on the various additional pieces. Along with the above items, I also created 2 new watermarks for Michelle to use.

I had the most amazing time working on this project and cannot wait to see what the future holds for Michelle! If you are in the market for a wedding photographer make sure to check out her website here, as well as her blog here!
